Pukekos– A native New Zealand bird of lowlands and swamps, often seen alongside country roads and on farmland.Sometimes known as a swamp hen. Though they look like they wouldn't fly.....they do....must be why we have a book and song with the words Pukeko in a Ponga Tree.Have a prominent white tail and make a screeching squeaking sound.
