Yellow-Eyed Penguin Soft Toy Large

This fluffy penguin is inspired by the rare Yellow-Eyed Penguin, found only in New Zealand waters. A sedentary species, it seldom swims far from its breeding ground, and is probably the world's rarest penguin. Pictured here with the baby Yellow eyed penguin (separate purchase)

Unlike most other penguins, it uses scattered nesting sites instead of breeding large colonies. These sites are found on the coasts of Canterbury, Otago, Southland, and on Stewart and Campbell Islands.

With some of the mainland breeding grounds disturbed by introduced predators (dogs, stoats) and human encroachment, an intensive conservation programme seeks to stabilise this species. Purchase of this product supports a NZ conservation project.
